In Search of Michael Collins
“In Search of Michael Collins” is a 122-page illustrated history and guide to the places in Co Cork associated with Michael Collins. It is filled with local historical information, Collins family history, lore, maps, original artwork and photographs. It also includes some never -before -seen photographs of Michael Collins, his family, his homestead, as well as extracts from interviews with close relatives of Michael Collins.
The Local Cost of Freedom
You can see a huge area from Castleview hill where the Michael Collins Centre Museum is located, including the local parishes of Clonakilty, Timoleague, Barryroe and Rossmore. The “Local Cost of Freedom” tells the stories of nearly forty people who lost their lives in those areas during the War of Independence and Civil War, or were from those parishes and died elsewhere. In that list there are IRA volunteers, RIC and DMP constables, Black and Tans, British soldiers, civilians, Free State soldiers, Anti-Treaty IRA men and a twelve-year-old boy shot by accident in village of Timoleague during the Civil War. “The Local Cost of Freedom” is full of amazing human stories and a lot more. It is heavily illustrated with over one hundred and forty photographs, articles from the newspapers of the time and other documents.
